SALE United’s Under-Sixes squad won the ‘Curzon Ashton’ football tournament last Saturday.

The seven player squad, plying 5-a-side, won all of their qualifying games to win through to the knockout stages.

In their semi-final, they left it to the last kick of the game to score the only goal in a 1-0 win.

In the final, against a Manchester Corinthians team, Sale took a 2-0 lead.

However the Corinthians battled back trying to get back into the game but the Sale team, who had only conceded three goals throughout the competition stood firm to hold on to their advantage.

Sale United’s Under Sixes Head Coach, Stewart Hamer, said: "The win was well deserved as the squad have been on the wrong end of three previous finals in the past couple of months.

"We have over 40 players in this age group and over the year we have given all of them chances to test their skills against opposition from other clubs.

"All our players have made good progress since they joined us last September.

Sale United is now opening its membership to players entering School Year 1 in September. Training has already started for this squad.
