TRAFFORD produced a tremendously determined and spirited display against the full-time professionals of Chester FC at Shawe View on Saturday falling to a Tom Shaw goal in the 68th minute.

The visitors stormed forward from the kick off and after just twenty seconds George Thompson struck the foot of the post with Tom Peers blasting the rebound well over.

Kane Richards twice went close to increasing Chester’s lead, firing straight at Russ Saunders from 15 yards and then powering in a header that the home keeper spectacularly tipped over.

At the other end, Jon Worsnop saved from Matty Kaye but then fumbled a low drive and Chris McDonagh just failed to force the ball home.

In the 43rd minute Trafford striker Ben Deegan squandered a great chance of an equaliser but shot weakly and Worsnop gathered.

Four minutes into the second half, Chester right winger Jordan Chappell broke clear but Saunders left his line to save superbly and within a minute Proya Ahmadi was clean through at the other end but substitute goalkeeper Ian Ormeson produced a brilliant block from point blank range.

Ben Deegan blasted over from 15 yards as the home side battled gamely but the deadlock was finally broken in the 68th minute when Sam Hughes and Craig Mahon linked neatly and Tom Shaw coolly placed his shot past Jack Cookson.

Cookson then produced a magnificent save to thwart Ross Hannah from the penalty spot following a trip by Trafford skipper Josh Granite and the final whistle arrived shortly afterwards to signal a deserved but hard fought victory for the National League outfit.

The Shawe View side started their pre-season preparations with a 4-0 victory against Brickfields in Wales thanks to goals from McDonagh, Granite, Shaw and Ahmadi.
