TRAFFORD boss Tom Baker is not going to get carried away despite adding seven new faces to his squad.

Ashton United pair Ben Deegan and defender Mark Haslam have been joined at Shawe View by Radcliffe Borough defensive duo Danny Lafferty and Danny Lambert and Congleton's Scott Sephton and former FC United of Manchester player Matty Kay.

Baker is delighted by getting so many players to join so early in pre-season.

He said: "These have been players we chasing since I arrived at the club and it was great to get them in.

"We are going to keep our feet on the ground and try to build the best squad possible to compete this season."

Speaking on Tuesday, Baker was also delighted to have captured defender Josh Granite from Mossley just hours earlier.

He said: "Josh is a no-nonsense aggressive player who loves to defend.

"A lot of other clubs were interested in him and we are delighted to get him.

"It was the same with Scott Sephton has had a great couple of seasons in the North West Counties with Congleton and cleaned up there winning lots of player of the season award.

"He is a great 6ft 2in athletic central midfielder and is great in the air."

Baker returned to his former club Ashton United to bring in some players and there were lots of links with Surrey Street outfit.

He said: "Mark Haslam was a player I knew him for many years and has scored a few goals and is very fit and dedicated.

"Ben Deegan scored 20 goals last season at Droylsden and Ashton United and I also played with him.

"He holds the ball up well and I am thankful for getting him on board.

"Then Matty Kay is a magnificent player and had long spells at Curzon Ashton and FC United and also is a proven goalscorer and was also at Ashton."

Baker has also added experienced Evo-Stik Division One North players Lambert and Lafferty from Radcliffe.

He said: "Both Dannys had difficult seasons last year but have been very good player in a struggling side."

Despite all the positive news, Baker did reveal that one player is leaving.

He said: "Our goalkeeper Tom Read contacted me to say he had taken on a new job and would be working on weekends.

"He could not play due to work commitments.

"He has been at the club for a long time and I will be sad to see him go.

"He leaves with all our best wishes."
