WARRINGTON won an exciting and positive game of cricket off the penultimate ball as they paced their chase perfectly against hosts Brooklands.

Brooklands got off to the worst possible start at 7-2 but Emmanuel Parmakellis (29) started the recovery but the bulk of the work was done in a partnership of 128 between Alexander John Hart and Ali Buchan.

Buchan scored 32 of the runs as Hart (97) played shots all around the ground at a good rate before running himself out three short of what would have been a first century for the side since 2009.

Brooklands ensured a defendable score of 203 and maximum batting points.

Warrington lost an early wicket but otherwise their top order got them to 78-1 and all chipped in.

The introduction of youngster Raj Singh (4-79) saw Warrington lose four wickets in 44 runs and dragged Brooklands back into the game with the visitors on 120-5.

However, calm batting from Will Fleetwood (57) very nearly saw Warrington to the finishing line.

Warrington's lower order had enough to get over the line with 49.5 overs with their star bowler Ashley Scholes hitting the winning runs.

Elsewhere, the second team achieved a comfortable victory at Warrington chasing 176 in 44 overs with former club president Chris Moore taking 5-46.

The third XI bowled well to bowl Oxton out for 170 on a small Wirral pitch but batted dreadfully to be all out for 98.

The fourth XI remain top of their league after having the better of a draw with Hyde but the Over-40s were soundly beaten against Urmston.
