FOR the third week in a row Dave Howarth pulled off a masterful batting display to put Timperley CC top of the Cheshire County Division One.

Timperley started brightly with Mike Ness (23) and Asif Iqbal (34) to put on 70 despite the early loss of Daniel Cooper for four.

More wickets continued to fall before Craig Grindley added 24 but it was Howarth's innings that caught the eye from 91-6.

He initially steadied the ship before accelerating the innings with some big hitting to finish on 74 including seven classy sixes.

Chris Page was the only other batsman to reach double figures (12) as Howarth was the last man out with the total of 207.

Tattenhall, never looked interested in chasing the total of 207 set for them and were too stubborn in defence for the hosts to rout, finishing on 119-7 giving Timperley 14 draw points which took them to the top of the league thanks to other results going in their favour.

Page enjoyed the most success picking up four wickets.

Timperley host a team of former England cricketers on July 3.

Ex-Ashes heroes Steve Harmison, Matthew Hoggard and Simon Jones are among the top names signed up for the event.
