URMSTON CC wrapped up a 99-run win against Tattenhall in a one-sided affair at Moorside Rd with only four balls remaining.

Captain Chris Turner lost the toss for the seventh time in a row and were once again put into bat on a relatively slow pitch, compared to normal at Moorside Road.

Openers Calum Turner and in-form Brad Yates put on an impressive 142 for the first wicket negating the new ball well and staying patient against an impressive Tattenhall fielding outfit.

Yates fell in the 34th over for 65 and then a flurry of wickets fell as Callum Parkinson was run out for one and overseas Joey O’Connor for four and then Turner fell for a well-structured and patient 86 leaving the score at 172-4.

It was then left for captain Chris Turner and Matthew Parkinson to rebuild so that the Urmston total remained at worst competitive.

Parkinson departed for eight in the 48th over but some good running between the wickets moved the score on 205-5.

Some late boundary hitting from the Urmston lower order added valuable runs to the Urmston total, finishing the 50 overs on 238-6 with Chris Turner finishing on 44 not out.

A strong start was made by the opening attack of Zeeshan Assi and O’Connor left Tattenhall 32-2 in the ninth over.

The introduction of Matthew Parkinson was key as he and Assi bowled very tidily for the majority of the Tattenhall innings and didn’t give anything away and restricted them to 74-6 in the 27th over.

Resistance from the lower order of Tattenhall proved tricky to breakdown and it took some hostile bowling from Assi and O’Connor to knock over the tail and it was the guile of Parkinson who took the 10th and final wicket in the final over of the game.

Zeeshan Assi (4-36) and Matthew Parkinson (3-33) caught the eye for Urmston.

This was a very valuable 25 points for Urmston and it takes them to sixth place hot on the heels of the competition above them. Next Saturday sees them travel to Oulton Park for another key game in the season.
