AN Altrincham Grammar School pupil came away with from the English National Age Group Championships with two gold medals in the under-13s age-group.
Neil Bhabuta, who lives in Stretford and plays at the Manchester Badminton Performance Centre, made his way through to the singles final without dropping a set against tough opposition.
In the semi-final he came up against Akhil Pillai of London and whom he has played with in the junior England team. A strong performance saw Neil taking the match 21-14, 21-11.
In the final Bhabuta took the first set against Jack Taylor 21-18. There was no let up against a determined opponent in the second set which was then taken 21-15.
Bhabuta also turned in strong performances in the mixed and boys doubles events with gold & bronze medals respectively.
In the mixed he and his partner, Annie Lado of Hampshire, took the title from top seeds Christian Mitchell and Kiara Henry, fighting back from a set down. In the boys doubles Neil and good friend and fellow Stretfordian, Siddarth Palakkal fell in the semi-final.
