TIMPERLEY'S new-boys who shone as they ran out comfortable six-wicket winners on the first day of the season at local rivals Urmston.

Having won the toss captain Craig Grindley elected to bowl first on a sunny afternoon at his old club.

It was brother Ian, returning from a season in retirement, that starred with the ball picking up 5-23 (13) as the hosts were bowled out for 140.

Another new boy Jack White also picked up two wickets and Nathan Brown pulled off a magnificent run out of Urmston's danger man Sumit Panda.

Timperley made light work of their target after tea, new Kiwi Dan Cooper with a solid 36 and new signing Asif Iqbal, who has joined from Baxenden CC (Ribblesdale League) scored a dynamic 76 as they took a win in the first game of the Cheshire County Division One league.

Timperley will be looking to grab their second win when they entertain Weaverham.

Meanwhile, the 2nd XI lost a good game of cricket at home to local rivals Bowdon.

Batting first, Timperley racked up 220-5 thanks to a maiden century from 15 year old Ed Galley with support from Jamie Fisher (55).

Bowdon reached their target with two balls to spare as Timperley rued dropped catches.

Elsewhere, Sale CC captain Chris Canning got the new cricket season off to a perfect start, as his side secured a convincing seven-wicket win against Didsbury in Division One of the Vivio Cheshire County Cricket League.

Sale 1st XI finished the 2014 season just one point behind third-placed Didsbury so both sides were keen to put down an early promotion marker.

Canning saw his side home with a typically aggressive innings of 71 off just 68 balls, sharing an unbeaten 136 run partnership with Dan Halkon (72).

Didsbury were invited to bat first on a great early season wicket at Sale’s Dane Road ground. Thanks to a 95 ball hundred from Josh Beal and an unbeaten 74 from Matthew Grace the visitors set an imposing total of 242-7.

Tyrone Lawrence and Rob Grant took two wickets a piece for Sale, with ‘keeper Canning claiming three stumpings.

In reply, Ian Dixon (42) and Matt Spells (30) got the home team off to a good start adding 79 for the first wicket.

Simon Normanton led the fight back for Didsbury reducing Sale to 107-3.

That brought Halkon and Canning together, who saw Sale home with 23 balls to spare.

The 2nd XI suffered a four-wicket reverse at Grappenhall after posting a below par 135, the highlight being three wickets on debut for Robbie Squire.

The 3rd XI started with a 14 run win over Ashton-on-Mersey on Sunday.

On Saturday, Sale's 1st XI travel to Christleton, whilst the 2nd XI entertain Congleton.
