SALE youngster Marcus Wood is set to feature for Manchester City as they look secure the clubs third FA Youth Cup title.

City take on Chelsea in the game’s opening leg on Monday night at the City Football Academy and Wood, a lifelong City fan, has spoken of his delight at being able to represent his boyhood side in such a big fixture.

“It is amazing. You dream about this as a kid so to represent the club is a dream come true.

“This is the biggest trophy we can win at this level. I can’t believe it to be honest” said Wood.

In order to bring the title back to Manchester, City will have to break a 36 year hoodoo which has seen them fail to lift the trophy whenever the second leg was away from home.

Wood, 17, isn’t one to believe in superstitions and is confident the Blues can prevail over the two legs.

“What has happened in the past is the past. We just have to focus on ourselves.

“We don’t focus on individuals. Everyone in the team is very good and we need everyone to play well together.

“We go into every game confidently and this one will be no different.”

Wood has previously played in packed stadiums and in front of TV cameras for City whilst on tour in Asia, and he is confident that it won’t be a struggle to get motivated for Mondays game.

“The occasion brings it out of you and we know what we are capable of.” he said.

The last time city won the FA Youth Cup was back in 2008, when they beat their upcoming opponents Chelsea 4-2 over two legs, and the versatile midfielder is confident they can deliver that success once again.

“It will be an exciting, fast-paced game and if we can play our game we know we have what it takes to bag a few goals.

“Hopefully we can take a good lead into the second leg and lift the trophy.”
