RECENTLY relegated Trafford's hopes of their first win of 2015 were quashed after a disappointing first half and they lost 3-2 to Frickley.

The early signs looked good but the Shawe View men fell behind in the ninth minute when Reece Thompson slotted passed Tom Read.

The visitors thought they had extended their lead on 18 minutes but the linesman's flag saved Trafford.

At the other end, Trafford managed to put together an attack of their own when Jeff King saw his shot deflect wide on 22 minutes minutes later.

Trafford had Tom Read to thank as two Frickley attackers failed between them to tuck the ball past the home keeper.

Graham Heathcote's Trafford replied with a foray down the left and Chris McDonagh will feel he should have done better with his glancing header.

But disaster struck in the 68th minute when Bradley Riley's corner evaded everyone and went into the back of the net.

Things went from bad to worse when Trafford were caught short and Thompson doubled his tally for the afternoon.

Heathcote will probably look back at the last 10 minutes as a tale of what could have been.

First Andy Smart blazed a penalty over the bar after McCarthy was tripped in the box.

Trafford’s tails were up and smart work by Liam Blake a minute later put Mark Derbyshire through who flashed a shot onto post and bar, the loose ball bobbled in the box before Prichard slotted home.

After the restart, Trafford regained possession and substitute Aaron Smith headed the ball down, but McCarthy’s weak shot was saved at the near post.

Injury time saw Trafford go all out on the offensive and Smith had the ball in the net in the fourth added minute, but the assistant had his flag raised. A break in play for an injury resulted in a drop ball in the dying seconds and Trafford’s substitute striker Derbyshire was the quickest to react to the through ball, poking past the advancing keeper.
