THERE was little Easter cheer for Trafford fans after they suffered two defeats over the weekend.

First up Graham Heathcote's side suffered a 3-1 defeat to Kings Lynn at Shawe View on Saturday and it was followed up with a 6-1 loss to Rushall Olympic.

It was a scrappy first half performance against Kings Lynn and some contentious refereeing decisions ensured Trafford were empty-handed.

Lynn went 1-0 up in dubious circumstances, Martyn Andrews adjudged to have fouled an opponent who went to ground very easily.

The resulting spot kick was dispatched with confidence into the top right corner by Lee Stevenson.

Trafford thought they had won a penalty in the 34th minute as John Pritchard went down in the area but the referee watched the ball go out of play.

It was time for the visitors to put some pressure together led by skipper David Bell.

Stevenson and Bell combined down the right on 41 minutes and the resulting cross was scrambled home by Peter Winn under pressure from the home defence.

The last action of the half had the Trafford faithful shaking their heads in disbelief.

Jimmy McCarthy was put clear with a lovely King through ball and the ball was knocked past Street in the Lynn goal.

The ‘keeper brought down the advancing striker, but the referee saw something that nobody else did and booked McCarthy for diving.

The second half saw Trafford race out of the traps and another chance went begging when substitute Rob Black found McCarthy but his effort was saved.

An almost carbon copy move at the other end a minute later saw David Bridges’ shot saved by Read, again with his feet.

Trafford looked as if they had some purpose and neat interplay with Jeff King put Liam Blake through, but the young forward blazed his shot high over the bar.

A Trafford right wing cross was deflected onto his own post by Jackson Ramm but the follow up from Black saved well by Street.

Disaster struck for Trafford in the 72nd minute when the referee gave another dubious penalty against Martyn Andrews, who was holding his ground in the box.

Again, Stevenson stepped up and put the ball in the opposite corner.

A late consolation summed up the final stages of the game with John Pritchard sweeping home after a goalmouth scramble in the final minute.

Elsewhere on Easter Monday, Liam Blake had helped Trafford level the scores against Rushall before they went on to concede five second-half goals.
