TRAFFORD MV 2nd XV kept the pressure on the top three with a resounding victory over Preston Grasshoppers fourth team.

The local lads were in commanding mood throughout as they took club centre stage with the first team having a blank weekend.

The fourth-placed County Courier Services Division Two North men won the first half 20-0 before doing even better in the second.

Following a solid scrum deep in Grasshoppers' 22, good work by Mike Boyle and John Kevan saw winger Johnny Lord scoot over in the corner.

Mike Worrall then danced over and added the extras and Andrew Moore touched down and Worrall scored a penalty before half time.

Trafford then effectively rotated their substitutes with Bowerman in particular making an impact.

Lord, Boyle, Moore, Fagan and Ward added five more tries as they gained complete control with Grasshoppers losing two players to injury and others tiring.

Worrall added the extras to four of them.

Among the biggest plusses for Trafford were the workrate of Birmingham and Ward, the game management of Worrall, and the control and direction of the forwards by Kevan and Boyle.

The first team return to action this weekend when they travel to Ormskirk in the Lancashire Plate quarter-finals.
