CZECH winger Michal Psurny struck the penalty shoot-out winner on Sunday night as Manchester Phoenix edged past Basingstoke Bison 4-3.

Psurny, who has struggled for form this season after prolific back to back campaigns, hit a penalty shot winner with Adam Walker missing for the home side, while netminder Steve Fone saved all three Bison attempts.

Phoenix opened the scoring with a Frantisek Bakrlik rocket but the visitors replied seconds before the first break with a Joe Rand goal.

Psurny restored the home side's lead with a close-range finish, but again the Bison pulled themselves level with an Aaron Connelly strike with the visitors turning up the pressure on the Phoenix back line.

Bobby Chamberlain put Phoenix back in front with a little over six minutes remaining but a freak goal from the Bison seconds after the restart ensured the game would need extra time to find a winner.

With no further scoring in the overtime period, Psurny lifted the puck high over Bison netminder Dean Skinns for the lone shoot-out goal with all three Bison attempts stopped by Fone.

Phoenix player/coach Tony Hand said: “Basingstoke are a good side and very well organised at the back.

"This was a good win for us, especially after our schedule over the last eight days.

“It is good to have the injured players back and I am sure we will consolidate our league position as we get into the critical stage of the season.”
