MANCHESTER Giants have signed forward Devin Grimes for the remainder of the British Basketball League season.

The 6ft 6ins player, who is from New York and holds and Irish passport, has agreed a contract to join the club.

He is set to arrive in Manchester this week and join up with the squad ahead of the run-in to the BBL play-offs.

Coach Jeff Jones said: “Devin is a multi-talented three/four who we hope will give us a boost as we look to claim a post-season place.

“He is a multi-skilled player who comes from a good basketball background.

“We are delighted he is able to join the committed group of players we already have.”

Grimes graduated from Roberts Wesleyan College basketball programme – an NCAA Division Two outfit. He also played in Spain for Askatuak.

The Giants need a boost after they went agonisingly close in Glasgow on Sunday night – but fell to a fifth successive defeat.

Jones’ men battled back into contention in the dying minutes with Stefan Gill’s three, plus one from the line, getting them within three points of the Rocks.

The home team had been 14 points up at the midway point of the fourth quarter before Giants found an extra gear.

But the fightback fell just shy of its target and Jones and Co will look to put things right in Bristol this weekend.

The Giants led 24-19 at a quarter and it was all square at 42-42 at half time.

The Rocks had the better of the third period, 23-19, and though the visitors scrapped hard they couldn’t quite close the gap.

Gill led the way with 24 points while Ingus Bankevics and Callum Jones grabbed 15 each, with Jones taking 10 rebounds and making 7 assists, while Ben Eaves had 10 with 12 boards.
