THE cricketers of Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC) are inspiring youngsters to adopt a healthier lifestyle thanks to a grant from national charity Heart Research UK.

Since April 2013 the Lancashire County Cricket Club Foundation has used the £9,371 grant to provide interactive presentations about the heart to 1,035 children aged nine to 11 from 30 primary schools around Trafford and Manchester.

Through the“Lanky’s Guide to a Healthy Heart” programme programme children have been given lessons in making fruit kebabs and playing games of kwik cricket in the Indoor Cricket Centre.

The aim is to teach them how physical activity and a balanced diet reduces the risks of heart disease and helps to keep them healthier later in life.

The foundation also gives the children a tour of Emirates Old Trafford, involves them in question and answer sessions and gives them the opportunity to meet some of the county cricketers to inspire them to become more active.

Bookings from schools are being taken to ensure the project continues. For further information contact Natasha Graham 0113 297 6205.
