SALE FC got back to winning ways with a resounding 56-12 victory over Huddersfield YMCA.

The victory left the local lads in second place in National Three North, three points behind leaders Sandal and seven clear of the two joint third-placed teams with a game in hand.

An excellent first-half performance secured the victory against a 10th-placed side making their first visit to Heywood Road.

As early as the second minute Sale led 3-0 from a Liam McGovern penalty and he doubled the lead minutes later.

With a near gale to their backs the hosts continued to dominate territory, and a run from Jack Moorhouse set up Sam Stelmaszek to score the first try, converted by McGovern for a 13-0 lead in as many minutes.

The Huddersfield men were pinned in their own half as they found it hard to make any headway against a dominant Sale attack.

Adam Aigbokhae scored Sale’s second try on 16 minutes and the visitors finished the first quarter with flanker Stuart Dyke in the sin-bin.

Sale were unrelenting, and before the half hour Tom Davenport burst through the YM defence to score, and Stelmaszek scored his second try from short range.

The same player put Moorhouse clear for Sale’s fifth try and with McGovern adding all three conversions the hosts were 39-0 ahead after less than 30 minutes.

In the first 12 minutes of the second half Sale added another 17 points with tries from Aigbokhae, Scott Briggs, and a third for Stelmaszek with McGovern kicking a further conversion. With changes to the Sale line-up and Huddersfield now having more of the play the scoring stopped until late in the game when YM scored two tries, one converted.
