Dtoylsden 6 Trafford 0

TRAFFORD'S tale of woe continued on Tuesday night when they were thrashed 6-0 at Droylsden in the First Round of the Doodson Sports Cup.

Ali Brown, Ciaran Kilheeney and Adam Morning all went close for the hosts in the opening stages with Trafford’s first chance falling to Shelton Payne in the 23rd minute when he fired across the face of the Droylsden goal.

Four minutes later disaster struck for the visitors when on-loan goalkeeper Ed Wilczynski was a fraction late in challenging Ben Deegan, conceding a penalty and receiving a red card. Ciaran Kilheeney stepped forward to slot the ball past stand-in keeper Lewis Chalmers and Trafford were now faced with a monumental task.

Amazingly they should have been level shortly afterwards when Michael Oates broke clear down the middle but a terrible bobble meant that he screwed his shot wide.

Droylsden were looking dangerous every time they pushed forward and in the 36th minute a fine move down the right ended with Morning pulling the ball back from the goal line and Deegan firing in from 10 yards.

On the stroke of half time the game was as good as over when another sweeping move ended with Morning cracking a low drive past Chalmers from the edge of the penalty area.

The second half should have been one of damage limitation but Trafford’s troubles continued in the 53rd minute when Fernando Moke curled a free kick inside the far post from 20 yards to make it 4-0.

Man of the match Morning went close on three occasions before ex-Trafford full back Ali Brown struck in the 77th minute when he swept the ball home after Chalmers heroic save from Ben Hampson fell kindly to him.

And the scoring was completed in the 82nd minute when a long ball out of defence was seized upon by Moke and he bamboozled Chalmers to walk the ball home.

Trafford will be desperate to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they travel to Redditch United for an FA Trophy second round tie and then on Tuesday night they make the long journey to Workington for an Evo Stik Premier Division fixture kicking off at 7-45 p.m
