Bowdon 3 20 Altrincham Kersal

IN the first ever league meeting between these closest of neighbours, it was the visitors who left victorious and returned to Stelfox with four points and another win on the board.

Billed by Bow’ as their ‘cup final’, there was a large turnout for this first league encounter between the two clubs in over 100 years of rivalry and they didn’t leave disappointed.

Bow struggled to live with the early pace set by the league leaders and had to fight to contain them. However, they took the lead via a penalty fromWetman mid-way through the half which happened to be their only score all day.

Bow disrupted play and tried to meet fire with fire but this had the opposite effect as they saw five players sent to the bin for a variety of infringements.

Kersal- enjoying the lion’s share of possession created several opportunities but the elusive final pass escaped them. That was until club captain Tris Laga powered over under the sticks leaving a simple conversion. Half time 3 – 7

Kersal went on to dominate the second half and extend their lead with tries from Clayton and Addy. Horton was close with both difficult conversions but had to make do with a penalty to take the final scoreline to 3 – 20.
