Ashton under Lyne 22 Trafford MV 22

TRAFFORD MV started well getting early points through a Pat Eccles penalty but they soon met their match with the bigger Ashton Under Lyne pack who scored from a pushover scrum 5 metres out. MV rallied and found themselves back on the front foot, they moved the ball wide well and created a good overlap.

Ashton soon hit back, a weak goal line defence allowed the fly half to score and make it 10-10 at half time.

The second half started well for the hosts and they soon had MV under pressure on their own line. Again from a FIVE METRE scrum they edged close and could only be stopped illegally. The referee awarded a penalty try 17 -10. A further score generated from their forward power looked to have the game sown up for Ashton at 22-10 with 15 minutes left on the clock.

MV now had nothing to lose and play some up tempo expansive rugby which paid dividend as good handling saw vice captain Burke get his second try of the day 22-15. MV continued to push knowing that a late try could salvage something. A series of Ashton infringements allowed quick thinking Eccles to take a quick tap and squeeze in at the foot of the posts. Converting his own try Eccles salvaged vital points for MV who escaped with a 22-22 draw.

Trafford MV welcome Birchfield to MacPherson Park on Saturday and is current looking for young players to join its ranks. Anyone interested in finding out more should call Wilf Dooley on 01942 884542 for more information.
