Whitby Town 1 Trafford 1

TRAFFORD, having taken the lead and controlled the game in the first half, found the roles reversed in the second period with only a last minute super save by keeper Andy Robertson enabling them to come away with a point.

Both sides started with an attacking intent with play switching from end to end. Whitby's Brown, McTiernan and Hopson, all had half chances, with Shelton Payne being Trafford's main threat, having a shot blocked by defenders, then nearly being set up by Shaw when in a good position.

Trafford took the lead on 20 minutes, when Shaw's through ball found Payne on the left, who turned inside and picked his spot inside the far post.

The visitors, settled by the goal, took control of the game and should have increased their lead when Shaw blazed over the bar from a great position, and a speculative drive by Andrews was tipped round the post by Bland.

Whitby threatened, and Hopson's drive was well held byTrafford keeper Robertson.

Although in control for the remainder of the first half, Trafford's final ball was lacking in the quality required to turn their possession into goals.

What a turnaround in the second half.

After a mix up in the home penalty area that Trafford failed to capitalise upon, Whitby took control, forcing the away team to drop deep into their own half for long periods. Sheppard, Snaith, Hopson and Brown all had chances to equalise, with Sheppard finding the back of the Trafford net, albeit being judged offside, before Gardner got the Whitby equaliser, on 67 minutes, lashing the ball into the back of the net from a rebound off the crossbar.

The home side thought they had taken the lead when Sheppard found the back of the net, but again it was an offside decision that ruled it out.

Although Trafford had regained their defensive composure, restricting the home team to half chances, keeper Robertson made two superb saves in the final minutes, the first from a Brown pile driver, and then, in the dying seconds, a free kick by substitute Farrell, that was heading for the top corner that he heroically tipped over to ensure his side took a share of the points.
