Sale FC 57 Morley 7

SALE secured a satisfactory but not decisive 17-0 lead half time lead with tries from Ciaran Connolly (two) and Henry Platt, with team captain Liam McGovern adding a solitary conversion.

If the first half and part of the second had been a somewhat muted affair the latter stages of the match sparkled with stunning rugby of the highest order. From a position inside the Sale half confident passing by Chris Mayor, Connolly and Sam Stelmaszek put the latter over for a try converted by McGovern.

Morley responded on the hour when centre Tom Clough intercepted a Sale pass to run in from 70 metres for a converted try to make it 24-7, but from then on it was all Sale.

In the space of eleven minutes, Sale had added another twenty six points with some irresistible rugby. Morley conceded a penalty in their 22 and a quick tap move ended with Danny Waddy touching down. Three minutes later the home side were back on attack and classic interpassing between Mayor and Simpson ended with Mayor touching down and McGovern adding both conversions.

Sale weren’t finished and another excellent move put Jack Moorhouse over, before Stelmaszek claimed a second try, the latter converted by McGovern to bring up the 50 points.

In the final minutes a powerful run from Tom Davenport put Moorhouse in again for Sale’s ninth try to complete a stunning last quarter, and McGovern claimed his sixth conversion in an outstanding team performance.
