Trafford 0 Ramsbottom United 1

TRAFFORD'S inconsistent form continued on Saturday when they were defeated by a late goal by substitute Jon Robinson, a result that means they are still to record back to back victories this season.

Garry Vaughan’s side started confidently buoyed by an emphatic 4-0 win over Nantwich Town in their previous game. However, after just nine minutes a long throw by Rammy’s left back Lee Pugh ended with Grant Spencer heading against the back post as the visitors made their intentions clear.

The visitors big striker Jordan Hulme then volleyed well over from 15 yards before Michael Oates failed to apply the finishing touch to a low cross by Rees Walsh.

In the 38th minute the best chance of the first half fell to Trafford midfielder Will Ahern but his header from point blank range was brilliantly saved by Grant Shenton.

Seconds before the interval Rammy created a good opening for themselves when sloppy defending allowed Osebi Abadaki to fire over from 10 yards.

The visitors were on top in the opening stages of the second half and in the 47th minute a thunderous drive by Scott Burton was superbly tipped over by home keeper Andy Robertson.

Centre half Steve Howson headed just past Robertson’s left hand upright before Trafford’s Chris Palmer nodded over from close range following another Rees Walsh cross.

In the 72nd minute Ramsbottom introduced substitute Jon Robinson to the fray and seven minutes later he made his mark when Trafford failed to clear a left wing corner and he pounced to smash the ball into the roof of the net.

Trafford were clearly deflated by this setback but fought to the end and in the 90th minute Nia Bayunu just failed to connect cleanly with his header after Rory Fallon had crossed from the right.
