IN excellent cricketing conditions, Trafford MV cricket 1st XI were on the road at Winsford with much needed points at stake on Saturday.

Due to injury, work commitments and unavailability, a much changed Trafford team was bolstered by the addition of veterans of first team games in the last millennium, Mike Morgan and Kieran Maguire.

Stand-in skipper Steve Warner won the toss and asked Winsford to bat.

His decision looked to have been a good one when the opening attack of Harrison and Pomfret picked up some quick wickets to reduce Winsford to 53-5.

However a fine stand of 108 between B Crellin jnr and C Dean swung the game back towards the home team who were eventually bowled for 189 with three wickets each for Harrison, Pomfret and Armstrong for MV.

Trafford's opening partnership of Andy Greenwood and Tom Armstrong got the team off to a solid start before the dismissal of Greenwood with the score on 29.

Tom Armstrong, Zahir Yasin and Hanif all batted into the teens before getting out, only Paddy Harrison who continued his recent good form with the bat pushed on before he was eventually out for 33.

With the victory target too far away, the MV batsmen batted out the last few overs to secure a draw from which Trafford MV took away eight points in their fight against relegation.

This Saturday, Trafford MV will be holding a cricket open day sponsored by Waitrose and the ECB to which all members of the community are invited to join in the 'cricket experience' at local club level.
