TRAFFORD recorded their sixth away win in succession on Monday with a 6-0 thrashing of already relegated Droylsden at the Butcher’s Arms.

The visitors attacked from the kick off and after just three minutes Paul Ashton squandered a great chance when he screwed wide from 10 yards.

Shelton Payne then drove just wide following a neatly worked corner by Tom Schofield and it seemed to be just a matter of time before Trafford broke the deadlock.

However, Droylsden were growing in confidence and in the 22nd minute Ben Heneghan headed against the upright following a corner and Domaine Rouse shot straight at Hayden Buckley Smith from the edge of the penalty area.

Keano Deacon blasted just wide as Droylsden continued to scent an upset and in the 37th minute Buckley Smith produced a brilliant save when he tipped a James Horan thunderbolt over the crossbar.

Heneghan went close again with a volley from another corner but the game changing moment arrived in the 39th minute when Trafford took the lead rather against the run of play.

A long ball out of defence by Andy Smart released the quicksilver Shelton Payne and he neatly rounded the onrushing Oliver Martin to walk the ball home.

Droylsden’s heads dropped visibly and two minutes later Tom Schofield and Paul Ashton linked on the left, the ball was played in to Simon Hackney and he cracked a magnificent angled drive into the top corner from 15 yards.

Chris Ashton just failed to connect with a diving header but two minutes into the second half Paul Ashton made it three when he cut in from the left and drilled a great shot into the far corner.

Trafford now threatened to run riot and in the 49th minute Hackney struck again when he skipped past Martin and fired home.

The visitors were retaining possession at will and in the 57th minute Martyn Andrews rounded off a marvellous move when he took Payne’s defence splitting pass in his stride and drove hard and low past the advancing Martin.

And it was Payne himself who completed the scoring in the 66th minute when he beat the Droylsden offside trap, cut in from the left and slipped the ball past the bewildered Martin.

In the dying seconds substitute Joe Shaw should have made it seven when he blasted over from a great position but the final whistle arrived to signal an excellent win for Trafford that moves them up into ninth position in the Evo Stik League Premier Division table.

Trafford complete their league fixtures on Saturday with a home encounter with Ilkeston Town, kick off 3 p.m., and then on Monday night they play Hyde FC in the Final of the Manchester Premier Cup at Gigg Lane, Bury, kick off 7.45pm.
