TRAFFORD MV slipped to a disappointing 20-25 home defeat to Ashton-under-Lyne in a game sponsored by Clancy Consulting Engineers.

MV were dominated by a hard working committed Ashton pack who deprived MV of set piece ball to minimise any scoring opportunities.

It looked as if MV might sneak a late score to take the credits - however the visitors held firm to secure the win.

MV's 2nd XV also saw defeat as a weakened side went down 26-14 against Chorley 1st XV.

All three of MV's teams have finished fourth in their respective leagues this season - a healthy season but could easily have been better. The players now have a break before embarking on their pre-season preparations.

The focus at Trafford MV will now switch to summer cricket as the better weather sets in.

MV's 1st XI open their season with an away trip to Sandbach while the 2nd XI open their season at home as Bunbury visit MacPherson Park. Cricket will have a new momentum at Trafford MV this season as the club launch a Sunday 3rd XV to offer playing options to those not able to take the field on Saturdays.

There will also be a Last Man Stands midweek evening cricket league. Limited over evening cricket is a new option and new players interested in this format of the game are asked to get in touch with Steve Haughton on 07514 073249.

Over the summer MV will be engaging in extensive improvements to their playing surfaces as under pitch drainage and outfield areas are improved.

Trafford MV continue to work hard on providing better sports facilities for the community to enjoy and would encourage schools and business in the area to get behind the club to help build a strong sporting backbone for Trafford borough.
