RECORD breaking, Unicorn Falcons, have been crowned champions of the Timperley Youth League, after winning all of their 16 matches.

Record keepers for the league believe this is the first time that a team has achieved the top spot without losing or drawing any of its games.

The team based in Timperley and who play their home fixtures on the astro pitch at BTH School, have tasted success in previous years, winning various cup competitions, but this is the first time in the team's 10 year history that they have sealed the league championship.

The team will not have chance to build on this success as many of the players will be leaving the area to take up university places and apprenticships.

Team managers Gus Welch and Andy Jackson saluted the magnificent achievement of the players: "To win a league title, without dropping points is difficult at any level and reflects the tremendous skill and dedication of the players.

“On top of this the team have been widely praised by opponents and referees for the style of their attacking play and for their sportmanship. We are astounded that none of the players have been given the opportunity to play at a higher standard with local semi-professional teams."

The league title was sealed in a high scoring match against Stretford Victoria. In a game with many goal scoring chances at both ends the Falcons ran out winnners 6-4.

In addition to clinching the league title, the Falcons will be looking to complete a rare double by winning the divisional cup final played at Trafford FC.

The Falcons are part of the Unicorn Club which provides opportunities for boys and girls from five to 18 to train and play The ever popular Saturday Club at Smiths Field is for reception age school chidren through to under 8s.
