ORGANISERS of the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon in Trafford have put out a call to encourage sports clubs and community groups to get involved in the race and be part of the support team this April.

Numerous roles are available within the support team with a large number of the positions already filled.

Volunteer co-ordinator Lee Vaughan has however confirmed that it is not too late to get involved and that some positions including course marshals are still available.

More than 1,000 course marshals are required to ensure that the marathon is safe and enjoyable for runners, spectators and the public. Course marshals are recruited in groups of 10+ via group leaders, and the organisers make a donation to the clubs, societies and community groups as a thank you for their time and support of the event.

Anyone wishing to register a group should get in touch with Lee Vaughan by email at

The ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon, which takes place in Trafford on April 6, is the flattest and fastest marathon in the UK and is recognised as one of the flattest courses in the world.
