THE recent heavy rains caused problems across the country and Trafford MV's 1st XV fixture fell foul of the conditions and a waterlogged pitch at St Edward Old Boys led to postponement of the game. Wilmslow failed to provide 3rd XV opposition for MV so it was left to the 2nd XV to carry the flag for the club.

Wigan were the visitors to McPherson Park and despite wet, heavy condition both sides made every effort to play an open game. The Lancastrians had the advantage of a strong heavy pack and the scrummages were a problem for MV throughout the game. The visiting team opened strongly and MV did well to take an early lead with a Jody Gregg penalty. Drives from the back row saw Danny Burke force his way over, Gregg converting to go 10-5 ahead.

There was not much between the sides as scores were exchanged, Jody Gregg and Lewis Kingdon crossing the line for MV - only the penalty separated the scores as MV held on through a late onslaught for a 20-17 win to secure third position in the league.

This Saturday coming sees an important fixture for MV's 1st XV as Oldham visit for a battle over 3rd place in North Lancs Div One.
