MANCHESTER Phoenix earned themselves a 4 point weekend when they added to their victory on Saturday night over the Steeldogs with an exciting 4-3 home win over Milton Keynes Lightning.
Milton Keynes found themselves 2-0 up - Leigh Jamieson scored the first. They doubled the lead five minutes later when Janne Jokila scored. Phoenix pulled a goal back with a neat James Archer goal. He was on the spot to sweep the puck home from a Tony Hand pass. Two minutes later the teams were level. Phoenix, on a delayed penalty call, pulled Stephen Fone for the extra attacker and took full advantage. Robin Kovar got the goal. The period ended with the teams level at 2-2.
Phoenix took the lead as Luke Boothroyd latched on to a Michal Psurny pass to blast the puck past Stephen Wall. Phoenix were the dominant side in the second period and outshot their opponents 14-7 to take a 3-2 lead to the second break.
Phoenix scored early in the third when Tony Hand got a stick to a Joe Graham pass on the edge of the crease and the puck deflected into the net to send the home fans delirious. With less than five minutes left Lightning again made it a one goal game with a Stanislav Lascek goal.
