HOT shot Michal Psurny netted a brace on Sunday night to help injury plagued Manchester Phoenix beat Slough Jets in emphatic style.

Phoenix, who are currently without forward Joachim Flaten and starting netminder Steve Fone through injury, flew out of the blocks to stun Slough in a terrific return to form.

Tony Hand’s side showed no signs of being a team that had lost consecutive home games to Bracknell and Peterborough, or a team that was taken apart 6-1 by Swindon Wildcats the previous night.

First period goals from Psurny and Bari McKenzie gave Phoenix a two goal lead, but Slough regrouped at the break and hit back with goals from former Phoenix stars Pavel Gomeniuk and Ciaran Long.

Psurny then restored Phoenix’s lead with a superb breakaway finish before a quick fire double from Ondrej Pozivil and James Archer saw the home side 5-2 up at the second interval.

Pozivil then fired home a sixth goal on an improved Phoenix powerplay early in the final period before Jets’ Long and Phoenix’s Luke Boothroyd traded late goals.

The victory sees Phoenix still in the hunt for the league title after both Basingstoke and Guildford suffered shock defeats on Sunday to Telford and Milton Keynes.

Hand said: “A great all round effort by each and every one of the guys tonight. Last night was a big disappointment. We needed a big performance in front of our own fans and we certainly did that.”
