TRAFFORD Synchronised Swimming Club returned from the ASA National Age Groups recently with a record nine medals.

The weekend started off well with a silver medal in the 19 and under age group. This team, swimming to a combination of Lady Gaga music, included four swimmers that were competing nationally for the first time.

In the 18/19 rec duet section Trafford swimmers Eliza Rice and Amy Codling produced a well drilled routine to collect the silver medal.

In the under 10 figure competition Millie Costello, who has only been swimming for nine months, won the silver medal while in a closely contested 13/14 age group Lucy Bowes was able to demonstrate her superior flexibility and height to finish in first place.

In the competitive routine section of the championships Lucy Bowes again showed her potential by finishing first in the 13/14 solo age group before teaming up with Isabelle Spencer for their Sherlock Holmes duet where a well synchronised and difficult routine again placed them in first place.

Later that day, Emma Bowes coupled with Jessica Southward swam a beautifully choreographed 18/19 duet to finish in third place.

On the final day of competition, and facing stiff opposition from bigger southern clubs, the Trafford swimmers showed great team spirit and excellent skill to finish second in the 12 and Under team and third in the 13/14 team.

Following their success in the National Age Groups four swimmers were selected to represent England in 2013.

Millie Costello (Under 10yrs), Jessica Spencer (Under 12 yrs), Lucy Bowes and Isabelle Spencer (13/14 years).

Lucy has ensured that the year has begun with even more success for the club by being selected to represent senior Great Britain in 2013. At 14 years Lucy is the youngest swimmer ever to be selected onto the senior squad. Anyone interested in synchronised swimming should contact Jo Bean (Head Coach) jo.bean@live.co.uk
