A JUNIOR muaythai boxing club in Altrincham has just seven weeks to raise the £4000 needed to send six of its members to a competition in Turkey in March.

The UK Muaythai Fedaration has provided some of the funding for the trip, but it cannot afford to send all 21 British competitors, including the six from Altrincham, to the IFMA World Junior Championships in Istanbul. The club now need to find £4000 as quickly as possible in order to go to the contest.

Trisha McKearey, who coaches the junior team at Pele’s Gym on Church Street said: “We have got some funding from our organisation, and it’s not that we’re not grateful for the money we’ve received from the UKMF, because we really are, but they can’t afford to contribute any more, so we need to raise the remaining money ourselves or the children won’t be able to go.”

The club have held a fundraising afternoon and members have done their best to raise individual sponorship, but they are now appealing to local businesses to provide the rest of the funding for the trip. The group from Pele’s Gym have promised that in return the competitiors will advertise the sponsors’ logos on their competition t-shirts.

Trisha said: “If some local business could sponsor the trip it would be great. We just haven’t got enough to pay for the flights and accommodation, and the sooner we raise the money, the sooner we can book.”
