TRAFFORD MV Rugby's start to the New Year was not the one they wanted as all three sides lost their opening games of 2013.

The 1st XV went to Merseyside to take on the league leaders in North Lancs Div One but found St Edwards Old Boys too strong after a lacklustre start allowed the home side to set the foundations for a deserved 31-14 wine to consolidate their position at the top.

MV's 2nd XV entertained a very good Sandbach side who ran the game from the opening whistle. Expansive running rugby caused havoc on MV's flanks and good support play meant there was always somebody on hand to finish off the moves in a convincing 0-71 win for the visitors.

MV sent their 3rd to Buxton to play the Derbyshire sides 2nd XV - due to absences higher up the order the team travelled two men short and this deficit was too much to handle. A gritty performance could not prevent the inevitable and the home side had a comfortable 38-9 victory.

MV have put a rallying call out to all rugby players to get their boots on and play the game - if you want to play rugby call Wilf Dooley on 01942 884542.
