TRAFFORD completed their league campaign in fine style with a superb 2-1 win in a pulsating clash at muddy Glossop on Monday night.
Persistent rain throughout the day had made the playing surface very difficult but both teams made light of the conditions to produce a thrilling end-to-end encounter.
And it was the champions who struck first when, in the 9th minute, home keeper Steffan Fielding parried a drive by Andy Lundy and Scott Barlow prodded the ball home from close range.
Glossop played with tremendous spirit throughout and they were rewarded for their endeavours in the 25th minute when Trafford keeper Tom Read misjudged a cross from the left and Kieran Lugsden tapped in from five yards.
Six minutes later leading scorer Lundy restored Trafford's lead when he netted at the back post following great work by left winger Scott Metcalfe.
Despite their being no further goals, there were plenty of thrills and goalmouth action and the large and vociferous crowd added to the tremendous atmosphere.
The excitement continued throughout and Glossop thought they had snatched a point in the 86th minute when they were awarded a highly controversial penalty after Lugsden had appeared to stumble in the penalty area.
The visitors breathed a huge sigh of relief when home full back Dave Young fired the spot kick wide of the right hand post.
Even then there were chances at each end and in the dying seconds Trafford substitute keeper Andy Moore produced a full length save to give his side the points.
A memorable season came to an end with Trafford winning the Vodkat League by an amazing eleven points and capping a tremendous debut season in management for boss Ged Kielty.
