SALE Sharks have suffered a major blow after centre Lee Thomas was suspended for 14 weeks.
The Welshman received his ban after being found guilty of striking Shaun Berne during Sale's 22-6 win over Bath at a hearing on Tuesday.
It means Thomas will miss the rest of the season and also the first month of next season, the ban ending on October 18.

The circumstances of the ban are unusual, as Thomas was not punished by the referee or even cited after the game on March 28, but was instead convicted on the evidence of a Bath journalist.
Berne was left needing emergency dental treatment after the incident, in which he lost three teeth.
Sale Sharks chief executive James Jennings said: "Sale Sharks are extremely disappointed with the outcome of the disciplinary hearing on Lee Thomas.
"The written decision of the RFU disciplinary panel will be issued in the next few days and once we are in receipt of the paperwork, the club, on behalf of Lee Thomas will review our position."
