SALE Sharks manager Steve Diamond praised the resilience of his squad in Saturday's comeback win against Harlequins as his side continued their unbeaten run at home.

And the 29-23 victory – their first win against the Londoners on home soil for six years – was the Sharks’ ninth win in 12 in all competitions.

The majority of Sale’s wins this season, though, have been at AJ Bell Stadium and it is their away form that again remains problematic having lost five of six on the road so far in the league.

And with such a small squad to choose from compared with other teams in the league, Diamond urged his players to keep playing the way they are.

"I think we've got a different model to other clubs,” he said. “They have massive squads – we don't, but the beauty of that is you don't miss too many internationals. We can stick together and continue doing the things we've been doing and then, we can gain momentum."

One welcome addition back to the fold was Joe Ford who started his first Premiership game of the season and Diamond was impressed with the fly-half’s contribution.

“Joe did really well,” he said. "His performance with boot and trying to get the game going was really good, he just needs game time."

He also reserved praise for captain David Seymour who last month signed a new contract with the club.

“He is a top-class operator,” said Diamond.

“He’s well disciplined and a great guy to have around and we're delighted to have him for another few years.”

Saturday’s trip to fifth placed Northampton is sure to prove a stern test for Sale as they look to continue their push up the league.

Indeed, victory at Franklin’s Gardens could see them leapfrog the Saints.

But with only the one win on the road so far this season – a 10-3 triumph against Leicester Tigers – Sharks may have their work cut out if they are to bring home the spoils.
