SALE Sharks Sevens captain James Mitchell knows there will be plenty to be wary of at Friday's Singha Premiership Rugby Sevens final, but says Sale Sharks are up for the challenge.

Mitchell skippered the Sharks safely through Group D of this year's competition, but they were made to fight for their spot at Twickenham Stoop after some close encounters at Kingston Park.

A last-gasp try saw Sale secure a late draw with Worcester in their first match, which ultimately proved vital as the Warriors eventually fell by the wayside on points difference.

And Mitchell admits his side can't wait to take to the Stoop and mix it with the best in the business, as the Sharks go in search of their first Singha 7s title.

"Obviously the boys are buzzing to have gone through in the end. It was a bit touch and go there for a while and we weren't sure we were going to make it," he said.

"But to do so and have the opportunity to get through and play at the Stoop in front of a packed crowd is going to be something to remember.

"We were a bit slow to get going, and to be honest we were probably playing XVs rugby most of the first game against Worcester.

"But we got into it towards the end, and we'll do some more training in the week ahead of next Friday and go from there.

"The Singha 7s is a brilliant opportunity for young guys like myself, Matt Postlethwaite, George Nott, and everyone in the squad really, to showcase what we've got and play in front of a big crowd like this."

The results now mean that the Sharks will head to London for a quarter final clash with last year's finalists Newport Gwent Dragons.

However, while Mitchell knows the match will be a tough one, he says every team at the Stoop will be top class and knows there will be no easy encounters.

"Playing in front of a packed out Stoop next week will be electric, and another great stepping stone for all these boys," he added.

"People have had this as a warm-up round to get into playing 7s rugby, so everyone will be into it and that final round will be even quicker than this one.

"There'll be better skills on show and all of that stuff, but it's hard to say who will be the side to beat.

"Wasps had a strong side out, so they will be strong, but it's 7s and at the end of the day anything can happen in this format.

"Gloucester too of course are defending champions and will be tough to beat, while Newport Gwent Dragons looked good in their round and bring something different every year."
