SALE Sharks Rugby Club has launched a partnership with Maggie’s, the charity which provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.

Sale Sharks, the North West’s only Aviva Premiership club, aims to use their profile and strong regional footprint to help Maggie’s generate awareness, particularly ahead of a new Maggie’s Centre due to open at The Christie in Manchester in 2016.

The partnership will initially see Maggie’s promoted heavily in line with Sale Sharks’ high profile Amlin Challenge Cup Quarter Final against Northampton Saints – to be played on April 3 at the AJ Bell Stadium.

As well as Sale Sharks carrying the Maggie’s logo on event marketing materials, the charity will also have a heavy presence at the game.

Maggie’s chief executive, Laura Lee, said: “We are absolutely delighted and hugely appreciative of the support received from Sale Sharks Rugby Club.

"The partnership will help us raise awareness of the new Maggie’s Centre at The Christie within the local community and marks a step forward in the realisation of our goal to offer the highest quality cancer support to the people of the North West in a warm and uplifting environment.”

Sale Sharks’ head of commercial sales, Andrew Lamb, added: “We were introduced to Maggie’s and the work they do when AJ Bell donated the naming rights of a Stand at the AJ Bell Stadium, our home venue, to them.

"Having worked with The Christie in the past as well, this is a natural fit and a fantastic cause for Sale Sharks to be involved with.

"We hope to generate some strong awareness for the charity as part of the Amlin Challenge Cup Quarter Final, and will continue our relationship beyond this fixture to help raise much needed funds for Maggie’s”
