OLYMPIC action came to Manchester on Thursday when the men's Olympic football tournament kicked off.

More than 70,000 packed Old Trafford to see Uruguay beat United Arab Emirates 2-1, and then Great Britain draw 1-1 with Senegal.

Our photographer Dave Gillespie was there to capture the action.

Fans from across the globe roared on their favourites during the two matches.

The Olympic Games opening ceremony takes place later today, friday, at the Olympic Stadium.

The next game at Old Trafford, which hosts seven games during the event, will be a double header including Brazil on Sunday.
