OXFORD UNITED 1 ALTRINCHAM 0 With three players suspended, and a further two regulars out injured, a trip to the runaway leaders of the Blue Square Premier was always going to be a tough task for Altrincham.
But with a squad which included six players yet to make a first-team start this season, Altrincham emerged with plenty of credit after a disciplined performance at the Kassam Stadium.
Indeed, it took a first-ever goal for Oxford defender Damian Batt, from 25 yards, to break the deadlock, midway through the second half.
But Altrincham gave Oxford an anxious closing period as they went for an equaliser.
Altrincham had earlier withstood a penalty award against their keeper, Stuart Coburn, who was judged to have brought down Simon Clist as he advanced through the penalty area in the eleventh minute.
But, despite being booked, Coburn made his second penalty save of the month to keep out Matt Green's spot kick.
The visitors had a couple of good chances of their own, with Little unable to convert a Nicky Clee cross in the first half and, late in the game, Shaun Densmore being denied by a clearance off the line by Oxford's Kinniburgh.
Altrincham have no fixture this Saturday so their next game is on November 10 at home to Witton Albion in the Cheshire Senior Cup (7.45pm).
