Altrincham director elected to the Football Association Council

ALTRINCHAM Football Club director, Andrew Shaw, has been elected to the Football Association Council as one of two members representing the Football Conference.

Mr Shaw was one of the three people who stepped in, along with chairman Geoff Goodwin and vice chairman Grahame Rowley to form a new board at Moss Lane in 2002 when the previous board resigned The FA opportunity arose due to Ben Robinson, chairman of Burton Albion, needing to relinquish his position on the council, with the Brewers winning the Blue Square Premier League in April and with it promotion to The Football League.

As a member of the Football Conference Board, Mr Shaw was proposed as their preferred candidate and was duly elected on Saturday at a meeting of the FA Mr Shaw, 53, becomes only the second Altrincham director to sit on this council, the other being Noel White, who was elected in 1976 and went on to become chairman of the Football Association International Committee for 14 years and is an FA Life vice president.

Mr White, who along with Peter Swales, dramatically turned the fortunes of the club around in the early 1960s, and who was the chairman during the Robins' halcyon days of the mid to late 60s, 70s and 80s, said: "Andrew is a hard working chap who will represent Conference clubs very well at the FA and his election is very good for the profile of Altrincham Football Club."
