ALTRINCHAM moved closer to confirming their promotion back to the Conference North with a comfortable 4-0 home win against Leicestershire side, Barwell.

Although Alty had beaten the visitors 3-0 on their own ground earlier this season, it was the Canaries who should have taken the lead in the first half hour of the game.

They spurned three decent chances before they were hit by a two-goal burst by Altrincham before half time.

Alty were indebted to their experienced right-back Shaun Densmore for both goals.

The first came after 38 minutes when he got forward to drive the ball past keeper Liam Castle.

And, two minutes later, it was his surge up the right which laid on a goal for Josh Hancock, who scored with a low shot.

The game was over in the 48th minute when winger John Johnston advanced up the right from his own half.

Outpacing a defender impressively, he drove his shot past the keeper from inside the box to make it 3-0.

Alty's top scorer Jordan Hulme wrapped up proceedings just before the hour mark when he scored the fourth goal from Johnston's feed.

With five fixtures remaining till the end of the season, the Robins need just two wins to be absolutely certain of the title.

They go into a hectic run of games, however, with defender Ben Harrison and midfielder James Poole both ruled out for the rest of the campaign with knee injuries.
