ALTRINCHAM battled the elements and a strong home side to come away with a point from a goalless draw at Warrington Town on Saturday.

In a clash between the Evo-Stik Premier's top two sides at Cantilever Park, Altrincham were without John Disney, Laurence Taylor, Tom Hannigan, Josh Amis, Sean Miller and Sam Sheridan but the inclusion of James Jones was the only actual change to the starting 11 from their last league match.

As well as battling the elements and the opposition, Altrincham were also faced with a referee who took a lenient attitude to a number of robust challenges, one of which left left-back Lewis Short limping for much of the afternoon.

With the wind behind them, Warrington were particularly threatening from inswinging corners but the Alty back line and keeper Tony Thompson defended well throughout the game.

Warrington's Abou Sanogo forced a good tip round the post from Thompson but, overall, it was a first half of few serious strikes on goal at either end.

Conditions worsened in the second half and Altrincham struggled to find their range with passes, corners and set-pieces. The Robins' best move of the match came on 65 minutes when a Simon Richman overlap on the right gave James Poole an opening but his shot went straight to keeper Tony McMillan.

Altrincham went on to have the better of the second period but, ultimately, it was the weather conditions which ruled the day.

Nevertheless, the result extended Alty's unbeaten league run to nine games – a sequence that includes seven clean sheets.

ALTRINCHAM: Thompson, Bembo-Leta, Short, Jones, Harrison, Moult, Johnston, Richman, Hulme, Poole, Hancock. Subs: Harrop, Peers, Densmore, Walsh, Deasy.
