PHIL Parkinson has followed up the prized capture of former Salford City striker Jordan Hulme by signing Josh Amis and versatile defender James Jones on non-contract forms.

The Altrincham boss announced the acquisitions of Amis and Jones, who had been on trial, after seeing his new-look squad turn on the style for the second time in three days, as they added an impressive 3-2 win against Chester to Saturday’s 4-1 thumping of Kidsgrove Athletic.

Burly frontrunner Amis scored for the second successive time, but it was a brilliant chip from the edge of the area from Jerome Wright that took the eye.

“It was a fantastic finish by Jerome, and I have been waiting for that from him, because he is a top, top player,” said Parkinson, whose side travel to Rhyl on Saturday, then face Wrexham at home next Tuesday.

“He has been FC United of Manchester’s captain for 10 years, or whatever, and we have been waiting for that little bit of sparkle that he showed for the goal.

“I think he needed it, because he grew into the game and was getting to the by-line and whipping balls in, and I think we are going to see more and more from him now.

“James Jones is going to sign non-contract forms, like a lot of other lads here, and Josh Amis has just signed tonight, so they will be fighting for their lives to get in the team, as will so many of them.

“I’m really pleased the players are continuing to present me with tough decisions, in terms of team selection for the start of the season. I’m relishing making those decisions.

“The scoreline didn’t flatter us one bit. We completely dominated the first half, and I thought our ball retention was outstanding.

“That is down to players sticking to the game plan. You need those bits of individual magic, like Jerome’s goal, but you also need everyone adhering to the team ethic, because that is how we came to dominate possession.”
