ALTRINCHAM completed their season's home fixtures with a 1-1 draw against an Alfreton team which retained its place in National League North as results elsewhere went their way.

The visitors had lost their previous six matches but a poor first-half performance from the hosts had Alty trailing at the interval.

Although the Robins survived a sequence of five Alfreton corners in succession, they fell behind in the 39th minute.

The goal came after Alty only half-cleared yet another Alfreton corner.

From left of goal, former Walsall and Portsmouth player Craig Westcarr had time to play in a well-directed cross, which the visitors' captain, Andy Monkhouse, headed firmly past Tim Deasy in the home goal.

Just before this setback, Altrincham had made a tactical change as left-back Andy McWilliams was withdrawn and Shaun Densmore came on.

Club captain Densmore has endured a wretched two seasons with injury but his second-half display influenced this game's outcome.

Indeed, seven minutes after the interval it was Densmore's dipping cross which produced his side's equaliser.

Alfreton keeper Fabian Spiess spilt the ball and, in trying to recover it, only succeeded in knocking it over the line.

Despite this being a meeting of the division's two worst defences, neither side could break the deadlock again, leaving Altrincham with just one home win in the league this season.

The Robins complete their fixtures at Tamworth on Saturday.
