ALTRINCHAM were quicker out of the blocks than Usain Bolt as they finally registered their first National League home win of the season against Worcester City at The J.Davidson Stadium on Saturday.

While Bolt took 9.58 seconds to set a new 100 metres world record seven years ago, Alty needed just 9.26 seconds to record a sensational opening goal in a 2-0 win.

Straight from the kick off, Sam Heathcote launched a pinpoint pass to the left flank, where James Lawrie set up Micah Evans for a low cross that Elliot Newby swept past a stunned Worcester keeper.

"Sam still needs to get better physically, and he knows that, but there is no better striker of a ball at the club," said manager Matt Doughty.

"He is only 19 and still learning the game, but he has great technique.

"He did really well, as did everyone.

"This win has been coming, because, for the past couple of weeks, we have been committed and shown real desire.

"The final third hasn't been great, but it all clicked against Worcester, and I'm really pleased for the fans, who turned out in numbers again, the players, the chairman, everyone.

"Simon Richman was fantastic in midfield.

"We told him, when we haven't got the ball, get it back for us, and he covered every blade of grass in the first half.

"That was the Simon of old."

Recent signing Chris Lynch scored the second goal for an Alty side who travelled to Darlington on Wednesday night and are away to AFC Telford United on Saturday.

"I put myself in a good area and was hoping the ball might drop to me," he said of his close-range finish.

"Confidence was a bit low when I arrived, but there is a good feeling around the place after that.

"It only takes a win to get you going.

"It's great to be back. I only left in the first place because of a job offer.

"I've unfinished business here, and when Matt contacted me, I snapped his hand off."
