ALTRINCHAM'S poor run continued on Tuesday when they were dumped out of the Cheshire Senior Cup quarter-finals by Evo-Stik First Division North side Hyde United 2-1.

With six players out injured, Altrincham fielded as strong a team as they had available but they were unable to overcome a Hyde team from two leagues below them in the football pyramid.

The Robins gave debuts to ex-Worcester City forward Micah Evans and to defender Chris Lynch, who had returned to the club from Salford City.

It all started reasonably well for the visitors as Barrow loanee Elliott Newby put Altrincham ahead with a well-taken goal in the 17th minute.

But neither goalkeeper was seriously tested as the visitors retained their lead to the interval.

Despite the promptings of Nicky Clee and Newby, Alty did not look like adding to their one-goal advantage during the second half, with Evans struggling to make an impact.

And they paid the price for their lack of bite when,12 minutes after the break, Hyde striker Phattaraphol Khamsuk netted an equaliser, scoring after Andy McWilliams had done well to clear an initial Hyde effort off the line.

Midway through the second half, the hosts took the lead with a well-worked goal which came from the right side of the pitch. Substitute Pete Boyle started the move near halfway and he was also on the end of Khamsuk's return pass before steering his shot past Tim Deasy.

Altrincham belatedly got forward on a more sustained basis as the game went into its closing stages.

They even brought on tall defender Sam Heathcote as an auxiliary forward, but they lacked penetration and were unable to secure an equaliser.

Next up, they face play-off hopefuls Harrogate Town in a National League North match at The J.Davidson Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

ALTRINCHAM: Deasy, Lynch, Cyrus, Moult, McWilliams, G Jones, Brownhill, Newby, Clee, Lawrie, Evans. Subs: Heathcote, Patterson, Reeves, Taylor, Goodall.
