ALTRINCHAM’S injury ravaged season reached a new nadir on Tuesday evening, as Michael Rankine secured a 2-2 draw with a last gasp equaliser against bottom of the table Kidderminster Harriers, who were denied their first win of the season.

Jordan Sinnott’s short free kick, in the fifth minute of added time, gave Rankine the opportunity to arrow a powerful drive through a narrow gap for his fifth goal of the campaign to bring some relief to the Robins, who were staring down the barrel of their third defeat in eight days.

Manager Lee Sinnott, who was without seven players and was forced to name five substitutes, who had just a single starting appearance between them rued missed chances.

He said: “We moved the ball around better and with a quicker tempo than we did at Aldershot on Saturday, but too many efforts were flying over the bar and we didn’t gamble often enough on the crosses delivered into Kidderminster’s box.

“We are facing some difficult circumstances, with the number of injuries that are following us around and it feels like one step forward and two steps back at the moment….it’s been a testing time.

The Robins boss hopes that Andy Parry, Ryan Crowther, Simon Richman and Adam Griffin will all be available again for Saturday’s testing trip to the International Stadium to take on Gateshead.

Kidderminster, urged on by their newly appointed, former Leeds United, manager, Dave Hockaday, had looked like securing their first league victory since March, after goals from Callum Hassan and Ben Whitfield, had overturned Altrincham’s lead.

They went ahead through a bizarre opening goal by James Lawrie, whose corner was misjudged by Harriers keeper, Dean Snedker after reacting far too late and ended up diverting the ball into the bottom corner of the net with his left foot.

In the F.A. Cup Fourth Qualifying Round, following seven consecutive away draws, Altrincham have finally been given a home draw against fellow Vanarama National League Chester on October 24.
