ALTRINCHAM's disappointing end of season run continued at a sunny Torquay with a 2-0 defeat on Saturday.

With only three wins in their previous 11 games, Altrincham's afternoon got off to a bad start.

Damian Reeves had an early goal chalked off for offside when he converted a Lawrie shot which had been blocked by the Gulls' 17 year-old keeper Dan Lavercombe.

Then, after just seven minutes of the match, Alty's goalkeeper Stuart Coburn went down with a calf injury which enforced his replacement by Dave Parton.

After a fairly uneventful few minutes, Torquay struck twice inside five minutes.

After 22 minutes Alty left a gap on the Torquay right flank, allowing Ryan Bowman to get in a cross which deflected to team-mate Kadell Daniel and he scored with a low shot across the keeper.

Things got worse when Bowman was tripped during Gianluca Havern's challenge and a penalty was the outcome.

The Torquay striker dinked the ball over Parton and then displayed further arrogance as he picked up the ball and threw it at Parton's head.

This prompted a melee which was ultimately to prove costly as Alty's Jake Moult picked up a booking, as well as Bowman.

Again, without their injured inspirational captain, Shaun Densmore, Alty had a decent spell after the interval and two fine saves were forced from Lavercombe by shots from Jordan Sinnott and Scott Leather. But the final nail in Alty's coffin arrived eight minutes from time when Jake Moult picked up a second card for a routine foul in a non-threatening area of midfield.

His dismissal reduced Alty to 10 men for the eighth time this season.

After the game manager Lee Sinnott said: "My thoughts on that performance are unprintable and we showed absolutely nothing in the first 45 minutes. Things were said inside the dressing room that I can't repeat".

Alty move on to a home game against already relegated AFC Telford United on Saturday (3pm) before the season ends with an away trip to Essex to face Braintree Town the following Saturday.
