ALTRINCHAM 0 FC HALIFAX TOWN 0

ALTRINCHAM fans saw the first goalless draw at the J. Davidson Stadium this season as the club showed their charitable side sporting a one-off pink kit for Cancer Awareness Day.

Though goalless, there was plenty of attacking action in this match and it was the Yorkshire visitors who provided the greater threat.

Indeed, Alty's 39 year-old goalkeeper, Stuart Coburn, had to make a number of outstanding stops to keep The Shaymen at bay.

Before the interval, he denied the visitors Adam Smith's acrobatic shot from the back post with a smart block and also foiled the same Halifax man's shot from the edge of the box.

For Altrincham, wayward shooting meant that Halifax keeper Glennon had a much less busy afternoon than his Altrincham counterpart.

Reeves's shot over the bar in the first minute was followed by a succession of off-target, mostly high, shots from his team-mates.

However, Alty's James Lawrie did provide some bright moments, not least when he poked a shot onto the outside of the post from Peter Cavanagh's feed before half time.

Altrincham finished the first half in the ascendancy but the early part of the second period saw the visitors setting the agends.

They looked to have achieved a breakthrough midway through the second half when their man of the match Adam Smith, was seemingly brought down inside the penalty area by Alty captain Luca Havern. With many in the crowd expecting referee Brooks to point to the penalty spot, instead the referee booked the dumbfounded Halifax man for diving.

And Coburn was to save his side again with a brilliant stop from Jackson's shot. With eleven minutes of the match remaining, another excellent stop by Coburn saw the ball run lose to Boden. The Halifax substitute hesitated in front of the gaping goal and his delay allowed Scott Leather to get across and block what had seemed to be a certain goal.

Altrincham rallied and dominated the closing stages of the match but more off-target shooting, from Lawrie and others, as well as a good save by Glennon from Crowther's 18-yard shot kept the game goalless.

This hard-earned point brought their points tally to fifty and almost certain survival in the Conference's national division for next season.

The Robins now have only six games remaining this season, four of them being long -distance away trips, starting with a trip to Dartford in Kent on Saturday. The next home game is on Good Friday (3pm) when Southport are the visitors.
